In this text with four parts, I tell the Why, How, Where, and When of the fact that Dr. Deniz Erdogmus is a charlatan. (Turkish)
1) Why is Dr. Deniz Erdogmus a charlatan?
Dr. Deniz Erdogmus claims to develop a technical solution to a philosophical problem. In his role in the RSVP project, he enforces (1) a refusal of the philosophical depth of the problem and (2) an insistence that a technical solution is possible, which is actually not the case. This double enforcement makes him a charlatan.
RSVP is a project that aims to infer the string someone intends to type. The conceptual framework relevant to this aim has been articulated in a document entitled Intended String Inference Bylaws (recently published on Yersiz Şeyler). The discussions in the ISI Bylaws document clearly exhibit the philosophical depth of the problem that the project intends to tackle.
However, the project’s “leaders” as a rule formulate its aims in terms of technical solutions. In other words, they formulate the problem in a way to ensure that the problem can never be solved.
Dr. Deniz Erdogmus, specifically, appoints himself as the self-proclaimed “boss” of what he calls the “RSVP team”. Through this role, he actively enforces two things:
1) A constant refusal to acknowledge the philosophical depth of the actual problem.
2) An unceasing insistence on the claim that a technical solution to the problem is possible, which is not the case.
This double enforcement effectively makes him a charlatan.
In the next part, I am going to answer the follow-up question: How is Dr. Deniz Erdogmus a charlatan?
